About the Artist
My name is Germaine Cahoon and I'm a 25 year old woman living in Athens GA. I'm still wrangling two undergraduate degrees --- one in Studio Art and another in Comparative Literature. Some may call my progress "slow," but I prefer the term "deliberate." I also work doing technical network support on campus. I love creating art, though only recently did I really start to give myself any credit in the area. I spent many years of tinkering with the copy of photoshop my brother Brad had given me, and filled many sketchbooks full of fanciful doodles throughout highschool. When I came to my university ohso long ago, I started watching anime and spent most of my free time drawing (poorly). I decided to take a bold step and switch to an art major. Though some of my university education has been wonderfully enriching, in many ways I remain self taught in terms of digital media and the pursuit of a more illustrative style.
I am an animal lover, currently mommying FAR too many creatures, which is a lot of hard work but very rewarding, especially since the majority of them are adopted or rescued. My other interests are wide and varied, and defy easy categorization. I love high minded literature that really gets the brain in gear ALMOST as I love the ABC soap operas I grew up on (and still watch devotedly every chance I get). I'm a big science fiction/fantasy geek, and can never get enough comics (the X-men were my first devoted fandom), zombie movies, and role playing games. I'm a Virgo (love making lists and worrying) with my moon in Aquarius (leaving me creative and a total slob). The two animals I usually choose to represent me are a bunny and a crocodile - about as disparate as you can get! My favorite color is pink, I love scary, gory movies, sparkly eyeshadow, big movie star sunglasses, reading tarot and walking barefoot in the mud. I cannot abide people who choose to be mean when nice would do just as well, really hate it when people don't use their turn signals, have an unreasonable hatred for generic fairy artwork, and think Miracle Whip is an abomination. Some of my favorite bands and musicians include Tori Amos, Placebo, Fiona Apple, The Beatles, Prince, The Decemberists, and anything that inspires funky dancing!
